Water

I can’t help it, if the language
I use to be myself
is a boys’ guide to romantic
poetry, an infatuation
with a junkyard, with climbing
alone over dirt mounds, through
a vacant lot made of gravel and mud,
through high, brown-thistled weeds, trash,
through ruins to the river.
The tidal waters flow backwards.
